September 26 – October 1, 2021

The PROT3CT team carried out field surveys in Milas, Muğla; Kemerköy, Salihli, Manisa and Antakya, Hatay. We documented the selected houses, installed or collected data from already installed temperature and humidity sensors, interviews with the users of the selected houses as well as with inhabitants of other traditional houses and conducted meetings with local authorities and colleagues who work in the cultural heritage conservation field.

1.       Milas, Muğla (Sept. 26 - 27, 2021)

2.       Kemer Village, Salihli, Manisa (Sept. 28 - 29, 2021)

The team carried out a field survey in Kemer Village, Salihli on September 28 and 29, 2021. After documenting the house, we installed the sensors in the selected house, namely Hacı Ali Ağa Konağı, and interviewed with the users of the house. Local architects Mehmet Ova, Kayhan Özmen and Mevli Pehlican kindly joined us in Kemer Village to learn more about the selected house, the technical aspects of the project and offered their support to our team in the later stages of the project.

We held a meeting with Zeki Kayda, the Mayor of Salihli Municipality, and met with colleagues who work in the cultural heritage conservation field. During the meetings, we shared the objectives, outputs and expected outcomes of the ongoing project. As in Milas, we had the chance to learn from the experiences of colleagues who work in this field.

Several other traditional houses in the village have also been studied and documented, also their inhabitants have been interviewed to learn from their insights regarding the comfort conditions in their houses.

3.       Antakya, Hatay (Sept. 30 - Oct. 1, 2021)

The field survey in Antakya took place on September 30 and October 1st. During the field survey, we documented the selected house and checked the status of the sensors, interviewed the users of the houses.

On September 30, the project team met with the governor Rahmi Doğan. The team also gathered with the Hatay branch of the Chamber of Architects of Turkey.

In addition, interviews were conducted with several other inhabitants of traditional houses by our team member, sociologist Sera Naz Ersoy to further understand users’ spatial patterns, needs and comfort conditions.
